Mascot Station Access Upgrade Project

What are we doing at Mascot Station?

Construction is underway to create a second station entrance on the western side of Bourke Street, opposite the existing station entrance. This will improve access and enhance pedestrian flow in and around Mascot Station.

Key features of the works include:

  • new integrated entrance/exit into Mascot Station which provides a place for community interaction
  • escalators and a lift to the lower/paid concourse
  • additional ticket gates
  • new toilets in the paid concourse of the station.

Anticipated project completion

Due to wet weather, supply chain issues and special event clashes, there have been delays which have impacted upon the project’s anticipated completion date. The current estimated project completion is Spring 2023. Please note this is subject to change and weather dependent.

Improved pedestrian access

In June 2021, the pedestrian crossing directly outside Mascot Station on Bourke Street was temporarily closed until project completion in Spring 2023.

Access will be maintained at all times to shops and along Etherden Walk. Please continue to show your support for local shops and other businesses.

Important pedestrian route changes - September update

To support the project, there have been a number of changes to pedestrian routes in the Mascot Precinct. The temporary pedestrian crossing on John Street near the Laycock Street intersection has been removed.

To replace the John Street temporary pedestrian crossing, a signalised pedestrian crossing on the corner of John and Bourke streets is now operational.

Please note the cycle lane on Bourke Street between Coward Street and Gardeners Road remains closed until the completion of the Mascot Station Upgrade project in Spring 2023.

We acknowledge the inconvenience these detours and changes have been causing over the last few months. We apologise and thank you for your patience as we continue this important work.

Changes to Saturday construction hours

The project has been adversely affected by previous impacts of COVID on the construction workforce, as well as the extreme rain events that we have encountered. To make up for lost time on our construction program we have extended working hours on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm to 7am to 6pm.This change took effect from Saturday 23 July 2022 and will remain in place through to project completion in Spring 2023. We understand that work during these extended hours will generate some noise and inconvenience in the area. We will provide updates in the monthly notification. Further details will also be provided to potentially impacted residents in advance of the work. This work is also dependant on weather and site conditions and is subject to change.
