Heathcote Road between Infantry Parade, Holsworthy and The Avenue, Voyager Point

Consultation has concluded

Reminder: Seeking your feedback on night work for temporary traffic light installation at The Avenue and Heathcote Road intersection, Voyager Point

We are requesting your feedback on night work to install temporary traffic lights at this busy intersection for the safety of motorists and pedestrians in the Voyager and Pleasure Point community. Help us complete this important safety project as soon as possible by letting us know if you agree to this night work in our survey.

The NSW Government is upgrading the 2.2 kilometre section of Heathcote Road between Infantry Parade, Holsworthy and The Avenue, Voyager Point to help reduce congestion, improve road safety and provide more reliable journeys for all road users.

We are carrying out work on the first stage of the project and soon we need to install temporary traffic lights at the intersection of The Avenue and Heathcote Road at Voyager Point to help motorists turn safely at this busy intersection. A map of the work is shown below.

About the night work

For the safety of our workers and motorists most of this work can only be carried out at night when traffic volumes are lower and we can redirect the traffic lanes safely.

The Environmental Protection Licence conditions for the project require us to seek your agreement before we can carry out the night work. Please help us by completing our survey.

The work will take about 18 nights to complete, weather permitting. We would work up to four nights per week from 6pm to 7am. We would generally plan to work two nights, one night off and then work two more nights.

Subject to agreement, we’d plan to start the night work in November and will notify you in advance.

The work includes barrier installation, line marking, jack hammering, locating utilities, saw cutting, asphalt work, removal of tree and shrubs so that we can install the new traffic lights and service connections.

What are impacts of this work?

Some of the night work will be noisy, especially activities such as saw cutting, asphalt works and jack hammering pavement.

Residents who live closest to the intersection such as Willowie Way are very likely to notice the noise and may find it is impacting them. Residents on streets such as Hovea, Pimelia and Punctata Circuits are likely to be moderately impacted by the work. Residents who live further away in areas such as East Hills and Hammondville may also notice some noise, however it may not cause disturbance.

If you have a student in your household who is studying the HSC or you are concerned about how this night work may impact you, please contact us so that we can discuss your situation with you.

How do we plan to minimise noise impacts?

During the works we will make all efforts to minimise noise impacts on the community by:

  • Installing noise blankets on temporary site fences where possible
  • Completing the noisiest work such as saw cutting and jack hammering before 11pm, where possible
  • Staging our work so that we’re not using the noisiest machinery at the same time
  • Switching off machinery and equipment when it’s not in use.

Why do we need to work at night?

Because Heathcote Road is a busy and critical link between Heathcote and the M5 South West Motorway, we can only do most of our work at night when traffic volumes are lower and we can close lanes on Heathcote Road to provide safety to our workers and motorists during this work.

If we cannot work at night, it would take up to four months to complete this critical safety work as we could only work on the road for about two to four hours per day, subject to lane closure approvals.

Have your say on the night work

Your feedback on the proposed out of hours works is important to us and we would appreciate if you could complete your response to us by 28 October. The survey should take no more than two minutes to complete. Thank you to those who have already responded to this request. If you have already advised us of your preference please ignore this reminder.
