Richmond Road Corridor – M7 Motorway to The Driftway Have Your Say on the Strategic Design

The Australian and NSW Governments have provided additional funding of $49 million for planning upgrades and future provision of additional lanes along the Richmond Road Corridor from the M7 to The Driftway as part of the North West Growth Area Road Network Strategy. This brings combined funding to $74 million for one of the region’s busiest and most congested arterials, an essential connection for commuters and freight between Blacktown, Windsor and Richmond.

The plan being developed for the Richmond Road Corridor Project aim to address the urgent requirements of this critical link for local communities and the greater North West. We are working closely with other government agencies to improve roads and infrastructure, so they're better prepared for floods and emergencies. This includes creating safer evacuation routes when needed.

To support growing traffic volumes, potential improvements include:

  • widening sections of the corridor from two to four lanes and four to six lanes to provide additional road capacity
  • upgrading existing intersections and introducing new signalised intersections to improve traffic flow
  • increasing the height of South Creek Bridge and adding extra lanes and active transport links
  • increasing the height of Richmond Road to enhance the capacity to withstand and recover from floods and support flood evacuation
  • adding a road shoulder and a central median to improve vehicle separation and enhance safety
  • improving connectivity with shared paths to public transport and encourage multi-modal transport
  • tree planting and landscaping to improve urban amenity and environmental outcomes.

The potential upgrade will:

  • ease congestion and support economic growth of the North West Growth Area
  • improve safety for pedestrians and motorists
  • enhance Richmond Road as a key freight route linking Richmond Road to the M7 Motorway
  • enhance capacity to withstand and recover from floods and, better evacuation routes for local communities
  • improve efficiency and support public transport
  • improve access, making it easier to walk, cycle and connect with public transport.

Proposed plans for South Creek Bridge also include upgrades to enhance flood resilience for this corridor

Have your say

We’re seeking your feedback to help shape the potential upgrade to best meet the needs of the community—making Richmond Road safer, more flood-resilient, and easier to travel along. Your input will guide improvements to traffic flow, walking and cycling connections, and the overall look and feel of the area. The potential upgrade includes:

  • widening the road to add more lanes, increasing from two to four lanes or four to six lanes
  • improving intersections with new traffic lights for better flow
  • raising South Creek Bridge and adding lanes and walking/cycling paths
  • lifting Richmond Road to help with flood safety and evacuation
  • adding road shoulders and a median to improve safety
  • better shared walking and cycling path to link to public transport for easier travel
  • planting trees and landscaping to improve the look and feel of the area.
