Transport for NSW has established a number of Smart Technology Programs to deliver the NSW Government commitment to reduce road congestion and improve road user experience across Greater Sydney and NSW regional centres. These programs will trial and deploy a range of innovative technology solutions to reduce congestion, simplify information for road users, enhance incident management and emergency response, and improve safety.

As part of this initiative, a Smart Signage trial will be conducted in Chalmers Street, Surry Hills between Cleveland Street and Devonshire Street, starting on Monday 28 November 2022. The trial aims to assess the potential benefits of new technology in improving kerbside customer information and reducing congestion in key traffic locations. A map of the Chalmers Street, Surry Hills trial location is provided below.

During the trial Smart Signage, powered by solar panels, will replace existing parking signs with one, easy to understand digital sign. The signs will display current and upcoming parking restrictions, providing customers with simple, accurate, real-time information at busy kerbside locations.

Transport will be seeking feedback on the Smart Signage trial. A Smart Signage Survey will be available on this page from Monday 28 November 2022.

Another Smart Signage trial is planned for Elizabeth Street, CBD between Park Street and Liverpool Street in the near future.
