Thurgoona Drive intersection upgrades

Consultation has now finished. We will keep the community updated on the progress of this project.

Transport for NSW has developed a concept design to improve traffic efficiency and safety at the Hume Highway and Thurgoona Drive intersections. You're invited to have your say and provide important feedback.

The proposed upgrade of the east and west roundabouts is expected to future-proof the intersection for 20 years. To do this, we need to investigate improvements to the current transport network in the area, as well as prepare for future growth.

As part of early planning and investigations for these upgrades, all feedback received will be analysed to better understand the transport network in this area and to ensure it meets the needs of our customers in the future.

Thurgoona Drive intersection upgrades concept design.

What is the concept design?

The concept design involves some changes to improve the west and east roundabout intersections’ performance. It addresses current issues such as traffic congestion and queuing.

Proposed improvements include additional lanes to improve safety and efficiency for motorists.

The west intersection would include:

  1. adding a short lane on the west approach for left turn and through movements
  2. adding a short lane on the south approach for left turn, through and right turn movements
  3. adding a second circulating flow lane for the south and west approaches
  4. Converting the chevron-marked traffic island on the bridge to an extra travel lane

 The east intersection would include:

5. adding a short exit lane for west approach movements
6. adding a short lane on the east approach for left turn movements
7. adding a slip lane on the east approach for left turn movements
8. adding a short exit lane for left turn movements from the east
9. adding a second circulating flow lane for the west approach.
