Infrastructure improvements are being made across Sydney's rail network to provide customers with more reliable, high capacity services as part of the More Trains, More Services program. These include modifications to track, signalling, stabling facilities and station platforms between Sydney CBD and the South Coast.

Offer of alternate accommodation or respite vouchers

In line with planning conditions, Transport for NSW undertakes noise modelling to assess the impacts of construction works, including for activities needing to be undertaken outside of standard construction hours.

Noise modelling indicates there may be noise impacts at your residence during some of our upcoming construction activities at night. For this reason, we would like to offer you alternative accommodation as respite from the impact of this night work.

The purpose of this offer is to provide your household with a break from the impact of construction activities in a nearby hotel.

We understand some households may not feel comfortable taking up the offer of alternative accommodation or are unable to accept due to individual circumstances. You may prefer to stay with family, friends or remain at home. In these circumstances we will be issuing respite vouchers for experiences outside of the home as break from our activities during this period.

Minimising Community Impacts
Transport for NSW adheres to strict environmental conditions relating to noise, vibration and dust management.
We understand that construction activities may cause disruption for the community and our on-site team will be implementing measures to minimise impacts of construction activities on local residents, including:

  • stopping high noise generating activities at regular intervals to provide rest periods
  • turning off machinery when not in use and using non-tonal reversing alarms
  • using noise blankets to minimise noise impacts
  • directing lighting away from residents
  • conducting noise monitoring at nearby properties to ensure we comply with the project’s Construction Noise and Vibration Guidelines.

Why we work outside standard construction hours
To maintain a high standard of safety and reliability across the transport network, Sydney Trains carries out trackwork outside of peak times, mostly overnight or on weekends to minimise or avoid disruption to commuter services.
Sections of the tracks are closed so maintenance crews can work safely and efficiently while maintaining and upgrading the track and surrounding infrastructure.

We are scheduling the majority of the More Trains, More Services program night work to coincide with Sydney Trains' trackwork periods to help ensure the safety of our construction team and minimise disruption to commuter services.
