What is the Airport Precinct Safety and Access Program? (APSAP)
The APSAP program is focusing on identifying and investigating potential short-term safety and access improvements within the Western Sydney Airport Precinct. These changes will help the existing road network cope with increased traffic while longer-term upgrades are planned and delivered across the Airport Precinct.
What stage is the program currently at?
The program is still in the early investigation stage and our team is undertaking road safety audits, geotechnical investigations, and developing high level designs for potential improvements. The projects currently being designed will then go through planning and assurance approvals before they can be delivered.
In addition to the projects we are currently investigating in the area, feedback during this engagement will help identify more improvements for our team to investigate and potentially deliver in a future stage of APSAP.
When will the road improvements be delivered?
As a wide range of improvements are being investigated, they will likely progress at different paces, depending on how much planning is needed. Some of the smaller improvements, such as linemarking (refreshing existing road markings or adding new ones to improve safety) and new signage will be delivered from early 2025.
Other larger improvements (for example, intersection upgrades or traffic light signal installation) will take longer to plan and deliver (subject to funding). We will provide updates as our investigations progress.
What kind of feedback is Transport for NSW looking for from the community?
While our team is using tools like road safety audits, traffic counts and traffic modelling to help shape the program, we value community feedback about their experiences while using the roads.
We are interested in hearing from you about any particular issues or concerns you have about the roads in the Airport Precinct which will inform our investigations
How will community feedback be used?
The feedback collected will be used to identify potential safety and access improvements within the Airport Precinct and to help us determine what potential improvements will bring the most value to the community.
Are there any sites being currently investigated for potential safety improvements?
We are already investigating safety and access improvements on the current road network:
The concept designs for the following improvements are currently open for feedback until 18 December 2024:
Elizabeth Drive and Luddenham Road intersection - click here for more info
Mamre Road and Kerr Road intersection - click here for more info
We are also investigating opportunities to improve safety along Fifteenth Avenue and smaller scale projects like improved road marking, signage and lighting.
In addition to the projects we are investigating in the area, feedback during this engagement will help identify more improvements for our team to investigate and potentially deliver in a future stage of APSAP.
How do we report current road maintenance issues (e.g. a pot hole)?
Please report road maintenance issues with the following form and your report will be sent to the authority responsible for actioning it - Report a pothole or damaged road | Service NSW(External link).
How does this program or enagement differ from the Airport Precinct Road Network consultation that occurred in late 2023?
The Airport Precinct Road Network consultation that Transport did in late 2023 was focused on the long-term road network in the Airport Precinct, as set out in the State Environmental Planning Policy for the Aerotropolis.
The Airport Precinct Safety and Access Program consultation is focused on getting feedback from community about potential short-term safety and access improvements on existing roads in the Precinct.
How can I stay informed about what's happening in the Western Sydney Airport Precinct?
We regularly update our portal website with important project updates, activities and information for the community, industry and our stakeholders.
