Coniston Platform Extension Project

What are we doing at Coniston Station?

We are making one platform longer at Coniston Station to accommodate the New Intercity Fleet. The new 10-car trains will provide an improved level of comfort and convenience for intercity customers. For more information please visit our New Intercity Fleet page.

Work we are doing to improve the station for customers and our staff:

  • extending Platform 2 to accommodate longer trains and provide a new staff walkway for drivers, cleaners and maintenance crews
  • adding new staff access stairs at both ends of Platform 2 to ensure safe access for drivers, cleaners and maintenance crews
  • realigning and installing new signalling equipment and overhead wiring so the new trains can operate safely and efficiently.

Next steps

We are continuing to deliver projects across New South Wales while ensuring the safety of all staff and the community. In line with current Australian Government guidelines around slowing the spread of Coronavirus and social distancing, all work will be carried out at a safe physical distance where possible and necessary hygiene practices will be observed.

Preliminary site investigations will be undertaken in August to further inform the technical design for this work.

In the coming months site compounds will be established to enable the start of construction work.
