Infrastructure improvements are being made across Sydney's rail network to provide customers with more reliable, high capacity turn up and go services as part of the More Trains, More Services program.
These include modifications to track, signalling, stabling facilities and station platforms between Sydney CBD and the South Coast.
Why we work at outside standard construction hours
To maintain a high standard of safety and reliability across the transport network, Sydney Trains carries out track work outside of peak times, mostly overnight or on weekends to minimise or avoid disruption to commuter services. Sections of the tracks are closed so maintenance crews can work safely and efficiently while fixing and upgrading the track and surrounding infrastructure.
We schedule the majority of our night work to coincide with Sydney Trains' track work periods, where no passenger services are running, to help ensure the safety of our construction team.
Where possible, we restrict our night work to no more than two consecutive nights per week to minimise disruption to local residents.

During December, the More Trains, More Services project team will be working for five consecutive days and nights from 2am, Saturday 26 to 2am, Thursday 31 December 2020. This work will take place between Sydney Terminal and Macdonaldtown Stabling Yard and is required to install essential infrastructure that will assist in transforming the rail network along this line in the future.

Transport for NSW adheres to strict environmental conditions relating to noise, vibration and dust management. We understand that construction activities may cause disruption for the community and we seek to minimise impacts as much as possible. We do this by offering respite to provide households with a break from the impact of our work. Respite offers could include grocery, meal or cinema vouchers.
