Sydney Terminal Area Reconfiguration Project

What are we doing at Sydney Terminal?

Upgrades to rail infrastructure between Sydney Terminal and Erskineville Junction are required to support the introduction of the new fleet of trains operating on the South Coast Line that will access platforms 1 to 14 at Central Station.

The upgrades include:

  • reconfiguration of the railway tracks
  • changes to overhead wiring and structures
  • relocation of underground utilities, drainage and signals.

Project update

During December we will carry out the following activities:

  • installation of overhead wiring portal
  • investigate and install the utilities route
  • signal installation
  • an extension of platforms 9 and 10.

Some out of hours work is planned to complete the required work. This will take place during scheduled trackwork period when no trains will be running. Environmental assessments indicate that the works will be noisy for some residents, and we will contact those people directly impacted by this work.

Every effort will be made to minimise any construction impacts to the local community and we will continue to keep the community informed about upcoming activities through regular updates.
