Harris Street Bus stop relocation - Western Distributor Network Improvements

Consultation has concluded

Transport for NSW is improving safety and reliability of the Western Distributor for the more than 120,000 road users who travel this vital road corridor each day.

As part of the Western Distributor Road Network Improvements project, the Harris Street pedestrian crossing on the southern side of the intersection at Allen Street will be removed.

In response to community feedback received during the project’s Review of Environmental Factors (REF) display, we are currently seeking feedback on the relocation of a bus stop on Harris Street, servicing routes 389, 501 and the 740 school bus.

What is proposed?

Relocating the northbound bus stop on Harris Street (Stop ID: 200926) about 100 metres north on Harris Street towards Pyrmont Bridge Road.

While three pedestrian crossings will remain at this intersection, relocating the bus stop will make it safer and more convenient for bus passengers to access services when the Harris Street pedestrian crossing is removed later this year.

How will this affect me locally?

To relocate the bus stop, the loading zone on Harris Street will need to be relocated further north towards Pyrmont Bridge Road, resulting in the removal of six (6) timed two-hour parking spaces on Harris Street.

Transport is proposing to provide five (5) timed half hour parking spaces where the existing bus zone is (south of the Allen Street intersection) to mitigate parking loss around this intersection.

Have your say

We invite you to provide feedback on this proposed change by completing our survey, sending us an email, or visiting us at one of our pop-up displays. Submissions close at midnight, Sunday 5 November 2023.

Relocation of the Harris Street bus stop was assessed in the Submissions Report and will be included as a revision to the scope of the project. However, implementation of the bus stop change is still subject to the public engagement process. Your feedback is paramount in helping us to understand what is important to you and your community.

How do I provide feedback?

Feedback can be submitted in three ways.

1. Complete our online survey

2. Contact us directly via email or phone 1800 684 490

3. In person at one of our upcoming information sessions

What happens next?

All feedback received will be considered by the project team and inform the outcome of the proposal, which will be published in a consultation summary report to our project website.

Changes to the 501 bus route

The 501 bus service will need to be permanently rerouted when the new Sydney Fish Markets open at Pyrmont Bridge Road. Transport is continuing to engage with route planners and operators on proposed alternate routes and bus stop locations for the 501 bus service and will keep the community updated.
