Western Sydney International Airport Precinct Road Network

The NSW Government is creating one of Australia’s largest infrastructure and city shaping programs, the 11,200-hectare Western Sydney International Airport Precinct (WSIA)

This major initiative includes the Western Sydney International Airport Precinct (WSIAP) Road Network. The network is a series of seven proposed road corridors that will create safe and reliable transport connections to, from and within the WSIAP.

The seven road corridors and the WSIA Precinct will become integral to Sydney’s broad regions and NSW, and will transform the area into a thriving cultural, social and economic hub.

We are planning now to ensure future transport connectivity, enabling people to travel safely and easily throughout the new precinct. There will be connections for using public transport, private vehicles, walking and bike riding. We are also planning so the state’s freight can be transported to and from the new business area on an integrated WSIAP Road Network.

The road network does not need to be constructed in time for the airport opening and its delivery is subject to NSW Government and/or the Federal Government investment or funding decisions.

The road network is made up of the proposed road corridors listed below.

Community and industry consultation update

We are ensuring that Transport meets everyone’s needs by working with community and businesses that are or will be operating in the WSIAP.

From September to October 2023, we consulted with the community and other stakeholders such as councils and industry. We wanted to know your views are on the seven road corridor routes, road design and usage.

We reached over 45 000 people, via website, an online survey, social media, email, face to face sessions, and a webinar.

You told us that you would like safe, connected roads, regular public transport and walking and bike riding paths.

We heard that you would like more clarification over the timing of potential future developments, to enable you to plan for any changes in the future. We have heard your concerns and will let you know of developments in 2024.

Strategic Business Case

Transport is at the early planning stage for the WSIAP Road Network. In December 2023, a Strategic Business Case was reviewed by the NSW Government to decide whether to fund the next stage.

A decision is expected in early 2024. If approved, we will be able to begin concept design work for the proposed road network. The concept designs will be exhibited for public comment.

More information will be available on a new website in 2024, including the full consultation report.

Property Acquisition

Currently we have not completed any detailed design and have not assessed the impacts to private property.

If Transport receives funding to progress to future stages, there may be a need for to acquire some properties along the WSIAP Road Network corridors. These may be full or partial property acquisitions. Transport will continue to be in contact with potentially affected property owners as the project progresses.

More information about the property acquisition process is available at www.propertyacquisition.nsw.gov.au
